We were tasked with creating a news style website with a modern look that could handle a variety of topics and post types.
The most important consideration for this site was it's mobile usability. The vast majority of site traffic would be generated from social media click throughs, and with the nature of the social accounts that will be sharing the articles, this meant that a high percentage of the audience would be under 30 years old and heavy mobile users.
Another big consideration for the project was the sites monetisation through advertising. We were tasked with integrating google adsense as well as another advertising network into the site. The placement and responsiveness of these adverts was key to the performance and success of the site.
The final big consideration was site speed and its ability to handle extremely high levels of traffic. The client estimated traffic of approximately 30,000 unique page views per day. This high level of traffic meant that we had to keep the website as light as possible in terms of processing power required by the server to ensure that every user has a fast and seamless experience browsing the site.
