Our team was tasked with migrating and re-designing the website for AHEP.
The AHEP team wanted to improve both the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) of their existing website, ensuring that visitors could easily access key information and resources. The site needed to be more intuitive and visually engaging to better reflect the organisation’s mission and support its audience of academic and industry stakeholders.
In addition to migrating the existing website content to a modern WordPress platform, our brief included delivering a refreshed design, improved navigation, and a more flexible and manageable content management system (CMS). The new website needed to clearly present AHEP’s activities, projects, news, and resources, while ensuring ease of use for both site administrators and end users.
Our custom WordPress design and development service was an ideal fit for this project, allowing us to tailor the design and functionality specifically to AHEP’s needs.
As with many live site migrations, reliability and close communication were essential. Our team worked collaboratively with AHEP to ensure the migration was seamless, deadlines were met, and the new site was ready to go live without disruption.
This case study outlines the process our team followed to successfully migrate and re-design the AHEP website, delivering an improved digital presence that supports their ongoing work.
To meet AHEP’s objectives, we began with a full audit of the existing website to understand its structure, content, and technical limitations. This informed our strategy for both the migration and the redesign.
We then moved the site onto a bespoke WordPress installation, giving AHEP access to a modern, scalable CMS that is intuitive for content editors and future-proof for ongoing updates. Care was taken to preserve SEO integrity during the migration, including the setup of 301 redirects and optimisation of metadata.
Our design team developed a clean, accessible, and responsive UI that reflects AHEP’s academic and engineering heritage. We focused on improving the information architecture to make the site easier to navigate, with clear calls to action and logical content grouping.
We implemented custom templates and flexible content blocks using the Gutenberg editor, allowing the AHEP team to easily manage and update content without relying on developers. The site also includes dedicated sections for projects, partners, and resources, all of which can be expanded as the partnership grows.
Throughout the project, we maintained close collaboration with AHEP stakeholders, holding regular check-ins to review progress, gather feedback, and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines. The final result is a streamlined, professional, and easy-to-maintain website that supports AHEP’s mission and enhances its online presence.
As part of the bespoke WordPress development for AHEP, we implemented several advanced features to support both user engagement and operational efficiency.
Forums
To encourage discussion and knowledge sharing among members, we integrated a dedicated forums section. This provides a secure and easy-to-use platform for higher education professionals to connect, ask questions, and collaborate within a moderated environment.
Custom Account Area with Profile Badges
We developed a member-only account area tailored to AHEP’s requirements. This includes personalised dashboards where users can manage their details and view profile badges awarded based on activity and engagement. The badge system promotes continued interaction with the platform and supports AHEP’s focus on professional development.
API Integration with Custom CRM
A key aspect of the build was integrating the website with AHEP’s internal CRM system via a secure API. This allows seamless two-way data synchronisation, enabling the organisation to manage member data efficiently while ensuring consistency across systems.
Events Section with Payment Gateway
We delivered a comprehensive events section that allows AHEP to promote and manage upcoming events. This includes functionality for registrations, filtering by category or date, and integrated payment options for paid events. The system was designed to be easy for administrators to manage while offering a smooth experience for members booking onto events.
