Why web design is so important

Whoever commissions a website to be made wants it to be visually appealing. Having an attractive website that represents your business, brand or product is vital but do you know that there are other reasons why the design of your website is so important?

There are a number of marketing reasons why your web design should be carefully considered. SEO, lead generation, conversion rates and the amount of traffic your website gets can all be tied to its design. Getting it wrong can seriously affect the success of your company online.

User experience is always at the forefront of any web designer’s mind and studies have shown that how users determine the reliability of a website is heavily related to its design. Of course, other factors have influence over this too, such as the content, but results have shown that users focus more on the actual design of a website.

The results of the study “Trust and Mistrust of Online Health Sites” highlighted this with a staggering 94% of comments, both positive and negative, referring directly to web design elements. Whilst we know the content of a website is important, only 6% of people referred to this.

So what were some if the concerns people had with the design elements?

Slow loading websites were an obvious frustration for some users whilst pop-up ads also drew criticism. Proving that the key to great web design is getting the balance right, other criticisms included too fussy layouts but also boring designs. Poorly presented text was another issue which proves it not only matters what you say on your website, but how your present that information to your audience. You don’t want to waste time creating brilliant content if no one reads it due to poor presentation.

When it comes to the relationship of website design and conversion rates the relationship between UI and UX Designers really proves its worth. If a user can easily and fluidly navigate your website, you’re more likely to get a complete transaction, i.e. a sale through the website or an enquiry. A website that is difficult to navigate, contains obstructions and takes longer to load is going to be left by a user pretty quickly. Then they’ll go and find another website where they can get the same thing much more easily.

There are so many more points to make about why web design is so important but we’ll leave that for another day! Instead we’ll leave you by saying that if you’re looking for a company that truly understands the importance of web design in Manchester, come visit us at VisionSharp.
