What is the infamous ‘unicorn’ in the web design/development world?

If you’re familiar with the industry, then you’ll be aware that there are two main factions to creating a website; design and development. Web designers create the look of a website and are responsible for the aesthetics such as colour scheme, layout, typography and imagery. They use tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to create beautiful websites geared towards a certain specification. Designers concern themselves with everything that you see on the screen, whether it’s on a mobile device or a desktop.

Simple designs don’t mean simple brands

Netflix recently revealed a brand new logo design for its app. Replacing the old ‘Netflix’ design is simply the letter ‘N.’ A lot of brands have recently reworked their logo purely for use on mobile devices and it seems the most successful and contemporary logos are those that appear simple and iconic. The trend seems to be leaning more to the minimalistic and almost abstract designs as companies move away from the hyper-literal/skeuomorphism that used to dominate the design world.
